Rehearsal 2/22/2011

February 23, 2011

I’ve been working with Bran, Gorki, and Branco -my apologies if I misspelled any names – on a musical concept that fuses different kinds of music. Currently the group consists of a vocalist, electric bass, vibraphone, and hand percussion. I plan to post some of the rehearsal tracks so that you can check them out at your leisure. However, because I’m running short on time during my lunch break you will have to wait until later to listen. Hopefully this can create a little bit of excitement!

After reading a thread on facebook I developed a few questions regarding children’s use of the internet and mobile technology.

Did the telephone cause this type of parental resistance? When did it become okay for children to use the telephone?

It is my position that if a child is aware of the internet he or she should be taught how to behave appropriately. There may be some mistakes or mischief, but correcting poor behavior and encouraging ¬†good behavior is part of parenting. I don’t think that age should be a factor, but rather the awareness and maturity level of the child should be brought into consideration. Rather than making something taboo it should be explained and addressed in a way that children can understand and learn how to behave appropriately.

Good luck to all parents in raising your kids. I’ll let you all know how this works if I ever get to test my opinions and theories with my future children.

One night. About a month ago I was sitting at home trying to come up with something that musically captures what my mind perceives on a normal day at work on Main Street. There are all kinds of sounds, colors, people,… you get the picture…. It’s a concept many composers have successfully tackled. I see it as a useful exercise when attempting to come up with something new. Usually what winds up happening is a combination of old techniques and ideas fusing with something new, whatever that may be.

Let the reading activities cease and may the listening begin.

Rough Draft of Tune #2

February 4, 2011

This is a tune called Ederlezi. I made a little track to aid my preparation. This is how I like to practice.

Clement says government won’t accept CRTC’s current Internet billing stance.

Thanks for not messing with my internets!

Federal government to look into usage-based Internet pricing.

This idea could change the internet as we now know it. I am not particularly fond of this idea, but I do comprehend the intent.

Check this out….hope you dig it.
